At Olive Chapel, we SAIL! SAIL is an acronym that stands for Show Safety, Act Responsibly, Impress with Respect, and Listen to Learn. Examples of Showing Safety might be walking instead of running, using playground equipment correctly, and not putting our hands on others. A student could Act Responsibly by putting materials back in the right place, turning in assignments, and following rules with technology. Impressing with Respect looks like students using kind words and actions, raising hands during lessons, and waiting our turn. Listening to Learn is important to reach our potential, so listening during lessons, small groups, to teachers, peers, and other staff is emphasized! These are just a few of the examples we might teach in the classroom. Students also learn how to SAIL around the school (hallways, cafeteria, specials classes, bathrooms, playground, dismissal, media center, etc. Ask your Olympian how he/she is SAILing at OCE!

Class DOJO!

In our classes we use a website called Class DOJO to keep track of positive behaviors. Students and parents can log in to see "points" given for great choices, and parents can even communicate with Mrs. O'Hare and Mrs. Bechard through the communication tool! Make sure you have this downloaded! Students must earn 20 points (and finish all school work) during the week to have free choice centers on Friday afternoon (Fun Friday)! If you need another card with log-in information, please let your teacher know! Just click on the image above to access the site (and you can download the app on your mobile device too!).

Clipper Cash!

One school-wide positive behavior incentive is clipper cash. Clipper cash is given out to individual students in increments of 1, 5, 10, and 20 dollars. Students earn clipper cash by following SAIL expectations. Students may spend their clipper cash on menu items from a second grade menu or a school-wide menu (some examples: stuffed animal day, treasure box, be on the morning news, pick your seat for the day, help a teacher).

Doubloons!

Another school-wide behavior incentive is our doubloon program. Unlike clipper cash, students earn doubloons as a class. Classes that earn doubloons can trade them in for prizes at the 25, 50, 75, 100 levels (and then after that 125, 150...). Teachers can't give their own classes doubloons so classes must earn them by showing SAIL behavior in the hallways, at assemblies, in specials, and other school areas!
